For any acute condition that has come suddenly after a shock, fright or after being outside in the cold wind. A good remedy for the first notion that you are about to get sick. Just make sure to take it within the first 24 hours after you notice the first symptoms. It is often necessary to prescribe another remedy after aconite is taken. This will be indicated by the symptoms changing. The most common thing you prescribe aconite for is for the symptoms you feel immediately after you have been outside, not dressed warmly enough, and you sense that this was a bad idea as soon as you return inside. You may get a sudden surge of heat in the face and get very red cheeks, a classical aconite sign.

It is also a good remedy for shock, if you had a shocking experience (a lucky escape from being hit by a car for example) or an unexpected surprise (such as acute illness in the family).

The remedy can be used when a cold, fever, or inflammation starts suddenly and violently (see also belladonna). Wanting to drink something cold. Everything tastes bitter, even water. Extreme restlessness and nervousness. It is worst in the evening/ around midnight, or this is when the symptoms really kick in. One is often restless and very sensitive to pain. Best remedy for panic attacks.

In short: Symptoms occur after fright. Prediction of one’s own death. Good for very early, or first, fever symptoms.

Other helpful hints: Included in all homeopathic birth kits, where it is given for fear of dying during childbirth. Also given if you hold the urine after the birth (both mother and baby).
