Ruta works deeply but has less clear symptoms than rhus tox. Pain often comes from overexertion, wear, distortions or strains. This remedy is called the 'mason's remedy' because this work is characterized by repetitive movements such as lifting the same weight (e.g. a brick) over and over again, causing strain.
It can also be used for eye strain symptoms after a period of reading a lot, such as before an exam.
The patient is less restless than the rhus tox patient, and the pain is not reduced by movement as in rhus tox. On the contrary, the pain is aggravated by movement and by carrying things. The pain is worse if the patient lies on the side where the injury is, and it feels as if the bone has been injured.
Ruta is also an important remedy for healing bones and tendons. Ruta is a good remedy for a sprained ankle, knee or taking a wrong step.
In short: Injuries to tendons and joints, as well as bruised bones. Overexertion and wear and tear.
Other helpful hints: If you have back pain, the pain is relieved by lying on the back. Pain everywhere else on the body is different and worsens if pressure increases in the area. Can be used for constipation after birth.
