The one main thing we treat with this remedy is violent nausea and constant vomiting that is not relieved by emptying the stomach.
Sometimes we get nauseous, and get better immediately after vomiting, this is not the case with ipecac. After we vomit, the nausea continues and we keep retching with nothing coming up apart from foam and slime.
The other main thing we use ipecac for is sudden, severe, bright red bleeding (nosebleeds, hemorrhoids, menstruation, etc.)
Spasmodic breathing. Cough leading to vomiting. The patient is not thirsty but drools.
The tongue looks clean and clear. The face is blue with dark circles under the eyes. Both hot and cold sweat.
The symptoms get worse at night or at the sight or smell of food.
In short: Constant nausea and vomiting. Bleeding.
Other helpful hints: Good for pregnancy nausea and when you produce a lot of saliva during nausea.
